Founder Don DiCostanzo possessed Zclipse bicycle store in Orange County with the intent of selling electric bikes, but the shop sold more nonelectric bikes. DiCostanzo began retrofitting some with electrical motors. After producers had ordered DiCostanzo to quit placing motors on their bikes, he decided to capitalize on the unmet market demand.

He offered the retail store and a few car washes he possessed to help fund the start-up of Pedego Electric Bikes with spouse Terry Sherry.

The Tommy Bahama electrical bikes debuted at the Interbike International Trade Expo in September, but retail revenue only started this month. Suggested retail price is $2,575. The cruiser is for sale at the Laguna Beach shop, 400 South Coast Highway, the Tommy Bahama site and other bicycle retailers nationally.
